Day one was a success all around. Both girls loved school. Little one came home so happy and told us that her teacher is funny. Awesome! I had more homework than the kids, tons of forms to fill out times two kids. In the pile was the annual tree nut allergy letter. I have to laugh when it comes home every year since it is about my kid.
Than around dinner time the phone rang. It was little ones teacher. She was calling to say that they day went well etc. Huh? What? OK........
Well that was awesome!
Yesterday I felt like I had an elephant sitting on my chest and the day took forever.
Today is flying by.....let it be this good all year.
Wow, that is wonderful! You are so very blessed. I have never received such a phone call in the 6 years we've been at the same school. Nothing even remotely close to that. Well, before kindergarten 5 years ago, the school nurse did call over the summer to assure us the district had dealt with food allergies before. That was all. We still had to begin from scratch with a plan that had never been constructed nor utilized in our schools before. Good for little one!! So happy for you. I continue to have nagging feelings here and there, though I feel like I shouldn't have to after this long. Somewhat sad. But at least we have some staff experience on our side, if nothing else. I yearn for genuine respect and empathy...not the condescending and patronizing type, but heart-felt compassion. That would go so very far on the confidence and peace meter! Prayers for all food allergy parents and their kiddos...we will choose to have a great year regardless of how our advocacy efforts are viewed!
ReplyDeleteSome days I just wonder what it will take for food allergy parents to be taken seriously. Also,I wish that there were national standards in regards to 504s etc.
