Blessings

I am so blessed to have amazing friends. Over the weekend I took my 7 year old to a birthday party. This was her bff's party, very exciting. I had it in my mind that I would drop her off and leave and come back to pick her up. I had never done this before. Leaving a food allergic child at a party? Not me, no way! Well, I am very good friends with the mom so I felt like this would be the time to try. I went over everything with the bday mom. I gave her the safe cupcake, and the epi-pens (after a retraining that was requested by the mom). I then told my daughter that we(husband and I ) were leaving to run errands and that we would be back. Her eyes flew out of her head. She looked scared. I told her that everything would be ok and that bday mom had her medicine and cupcake. I kissed her and left before I started to cry. We didn't go far. We walked around the shopping center and then sat a restaurant right next door. Hey, it's a start right?
Later I asked my daughter how she felt about being without us at the party? She said "I was scared at first but then I got over it." Ha! Gotta love kids.
If you have a food allergic child, have you left them at a party? How did it go?

I am counting my blessings today after seeing the destruction in Oklahoma. It is truly heartbreaking and it got me thinking. What if something like that happened here? I know what closet we would hide in. I know that I would grab the kids, the epi pen bag, and their bike helmets if I had time. What would happen after? What if our house was destroyed? I need to make an emergency box. Flashlights etc. And safe food! I can't guarantee that we would have access to safe food. That scares the you know what out of me. Do you have an emergency box? What's in it?

  1. What a big accomplishment for you and your lil' lady. I, too, am counting my blessings and need to learn from it and take action to make sure we have emergency supplies.

  3. I'm so proud of you!!! I know just how difficult that must have been for you, but it's an amazing step for her, and for you too.

I'm currently searching for lamps, and a weather radio, after the storm today left me with almost no charge on my cellphone or kindle!!! I found these emergency supplies, and they specify they are safe for nut allergies. http://www.essentialpacks.com/Deluxe-Emergency-Bucket-Kit-4-Person-392

  4. Thank you!
Thanks for the website. Going to show it to the hubby. I think it looks perfect and nut free is amazing. It has to be easier than getting everything separately. I was out in that storm today with low cell phone battery. Scary stuff.
