The snow and the ice

Well, we are being hit by a huge storm . Are you? It's crazy, tons of snow and ice to come. We will certainly be trapped in the house for a while. We are stocked up on safe food, water, batteries, etc. My hope is that the power stays on because I know that it will get cold fast and we are stuck here. The roads are awful.
Of course the kids think it's great. I keep reminding them that the days will need to be made up.
How is the weather by you? What precautions do you take in extreme weather?
Stay safe everyone!

Back from vacation

I think I am still on vacation mode. It's so hard to get back in the swing of things. I just spent a week at the beach with the family. It was great! Sun, sand, no schedule, it was great!
We rent a house so that we have a kitchen, which of course makes it easier to travel with a food allergic kid. We did go out to eat too. We went to our usual favorite place and added in two new restaurants too. Yes, it always makes me nervous to eat out but they came recommended from other food allergic families so that made it easier.
So, what does the sun, sand, salt water, chlorine and sunscreen do to a kid with dermatographism you ask? Tons! She was such a mess. She was so sunburned after the first day! I felt awful. After that we literally reapplied sunscreen every hour on the hour. That helped. No sunburn after that. On the first day her face became so blotchy out of nowhere that I gave her benadryl. After that she was fine. Now trying to get her eczema under control again.
Do you have any favorite vacation spots? Any tips for traveling with a food allergic family member?

Now to catch up on the laundry........
